# How the Lead Score Works

# How the Lead Score Works

As soon as a run is complete, every lead has a **score**. It takes away the most tedious work: deciding which result is actually worth your time. At a glance, you can see how well a lead matches your ideal customer and how promising it is.

## What the Score Tells You

The score is a number per lead. The higher it is, the better the company matches what you sell and the target audience you've described. You no longer have to check every result one by one — the score pre-sorts the wheat from the chaff for you.

## How It's Calculated

Leadscraper matches **everything it knows about a company** against two things:

1. **Your offer** — what you sell and who you help (this comes from your linked website).
2. **Your target audience** — exactly who you want to reach (industry, size, region, contact, and more).

The score emerges from this comparison. It's not random — it reflects how close a company is to your ideal customer.

## How to Work With It

The simplest method: **start at the top.** That's where the best-matching leads are. Work your way down as far as you like — and stop when the results no longer feel worth your while. That way you put your time and energy exactly into the contacts that deserve it most right now.

## How Your Score Gets More Accurate Over Time

The score isn't set in stone — it learns with you. The more leads you **rate** — rejecting non-matching ones with "Not a fit" and a reason, while moving matching ones further through the pipeline — the better your target audience understands what makes a good match for you. Over time, the highly-scored leads will be exactly the ones you actually need.

> **Tip:** Keep refining your target audience and actively reject the first non-matching results with a reason. Both make the score more precise run by run.
